The Mazda RX-7 FD3S was Mazda's flagship in the 1990s Golden Era of Japanese sports cars. Building on it's legendary win at LeMans in 1991, Mazda showed the world the rotary engine was a force to be reckoned with on the race track.
Although the rotary was the beating heart of the Mazda, even giving a nod to it in the vehicles name (the "RX" stands for "Rotary Experimental"), Mazda never fully incorporated the motif of the rotor into it's marketing.
We wanted to change that and give the FD3S a truly unique identity, while paying homage to it's Mazda lineage. What we settled on is a blend of the modern "Flying M" Mazda logo and the iconic rotor shape. Of course, in sticking with the engineering feat of keeping the RX-7 as lightweight as possible, we opted for titanium as the strongest and most lightweight material available.
